Leon
Melas moved to Los Angeles in 1990 from his hometown of Montreal
to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After graduating,
Leon went on to appear in theatre, film and television productions
in the U.S. and Canada.
In June of 1994, Leon, along with fellow Academy graduate Timm Oberwelland,
founded Zeal Pictures, a mainstream independent film production company. Leon
soon proved to be a versatile filmmaker serving as director, producer, editor
and writer for music videos, commercials, documentaries, and short films.
Leon received the Gold Award at the 1998 Worldfest Film Festival in Houston,
Texas for Life Goes On In L.A., a music video he directed for singer/songwriter
Rick Monroe. In 1999, he served as Associate Producer on the feature film, "Simpatico",
which starred Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges, Sharon Stone, Albert Finney and Catherine
Keener.
He is currently serving as Co-Executive Producer of "American Fighter
Pilot", a reality TV series on CBS, which is directed by Jesse Negron
(Pop & Me) and executive produced by Tony and Ridley Scott.
Leon is also, nurturing his directorial talents by focusing on the art of commercial
production. His commercial credits include a PSA for New Leash on Life which
is currently airing on CBS and Possom.com which premiered during the 2001 MTV
Music Award.
